About
Zagreb
Zagreb is not a typical capital. It is one of the 'art cities' in
Europe. As well as one of the world's few true walking cities. There
are dozens of galleries and museums within strolling distance of
the central square, Trg bana Jelacica, among them the Strossmayer
Gallery of Old Masters and the Mimara Museum, which has works by
Rembrandt, Renoir and others.
The New York Times described Zagreb in best way. «Take Vienna's
florid architecture throw in Budapest's bubbling cafe culture, and
you get Zagreb Croatia's grand capital. A showcase of fin-de-siècle
architecture capped by not one, but two hilltop medieval towns,
Zagreb's unexpected beauty is drawing travellers».
Although Zagreb doesn't lack famous designer labels and shops, many
find the Hrelic flea market, which is 10-15 minutes by foot from
the Zagreb apartment, interesting. On Sunday
mornings you can find there everything, from 1960's chandeliers
to Modernist furniture.
Zagreb is situated between the southern slopes of the Medvednica
mountain and both northern and southern bank of the river Sava at
an elevation of approximately 122 m above sea level.
